“Every overweight person has a moment, this pure magical moment, where something clicks. It is in that moment that they know not only are they going to lose the weight but that nothing and no one will deter them from their path.”
Welcome! I hope that you’re as excited as I am about your weight-loss journey. Before we get started, there are a few tips I’d like to give you in using this guide. A picture sparks weight loss, by starting with the picture that begins to form in your mind first. It always starts from there.
Consider the picture in your mind to be the root of your weight loss from here on out. You can best use this guide by keeping an open mind and a willingness to do the assignments that are given to you. It’s very important that you don’t skip a step in laying the groundwork, as this is how your picture will emerge.
You’ll need to gather a few materials up to get started. Grab a pen and a notebook, if you like to write things out by hand. If you don’t, I highly recommend keeping track through an online personal journal.
One of the things I like to do is use different colored pens by Bic (Bic Cristal Bold Colored Pens), use stickers (you can get a bunch from the dollar store), and for an online journal, I like to make HTML coded grab badges to reward myself!
You can get one for free on blogger and set it to private or on LiveJournal, to get started. If you have a blog and would like to create a series or a feature about your picture perfect weight loss journey, I highly recommend this method!
This forces you to be held accountable and you’ll be more likely to stick with it. Not only that, but a lot of people will be able to relate to what you’re going through. Now, let’s get this party started!
If you have any questions along the way, please e-mail me and I’ll be happy to help! Remember, you have direct access to me and no question is too small in my book
Losing weight can be one of the easiest things in the world to do once you have that moment of clarity. Yes, easy!
What makes it easy is that once a decision has been made, everything falls into place by order of the universe! Everything will fall in line with you, in order to support you.
If you haven’t had that magical moment, that click in your brain yet, please do not worry. This is the point in which you just have to let it go and have faith that it is coming.
You will literally feel the click in your brain and everything will be kicked into high gear. This is the universe letting you know that you are ready.
Sometimes when we really want something, especially as important as losing weight, we have a tendency to jump in before we’re ready. I say wait for that signal!
Your body will tell you when you’re ready mentally, physically, and spiritually to take action. Your body always knows when something is wrong when something is not in tune, and that includes pushing and pulling ourselves into doing something before we’re ready
Please Note: As with all diet and exercise programs, I recommend that you speak with your doctor first and get a check-up and general bloodwork done. Since I don’t know the weight, health problems, or conditions you may have in your life, I can only offer guidance and sparkling insights. Best of luck!
How to Prep Yourself to Lose Weight
Step One: Spiritual Work
If you’re anything like me, you like to jump into a diet head first! But pause yourself for a minute. You haven’t laid your groundwork first. Laying down the tracks first is critical to your weight-loss success. In fact, it’s almost more important than losing the weight itself!
Studies have proven time and again that clearing out the old, makes room for the new. In this case, weight loss! Start by clearing out your refrigerator and your kitchen cupboards. If you’re feeling really spry, get your hands dirty, and clear out your junk drawer, filing system, and medicine cabinet too.
The key is to work from the inside/out! By clearing out these inner spaces, you are literally clearing out the energy in your body that is weighed down heavily by clutter, dust, allergens, and unfocused organization. Anything messy has got to go!
Energy is a huge factor in the determination of weight gain, as well as weight loss. So the power really is in your hands!
Please note :That by cleaning and clearing out your fridge and cupboards, with special attention paid to your kitchen area, you are literally setting the scene for a brand-new, skinnier, healthier version of you!
Be sure to clean and sanitize cutting boards and knives too and set them out so you can visualize yourself cutting up vegetables and for juice recipes, soups, and salads. After clearing it out, you’re going to feel lighter, free, more energetic. This also clears the way for fresh organic foods. This is the fun part!
Ask Yourself These Questions:
- What types of foods do you want to fill your fridge and cupboards with?
- Now that your cupboards are bare of potato chips and other junk foods, what style of diet do you envision will work for you?
- What types of meals will you prepare?
- Do you see your diet as simple, clean cut, and already manifested?
Clearing everything out and making it sparkling clean, helps clarify everything for you! You’ll be able to answer these questions as well as begin to see the big picture as well as all the little details taking shape.
Step Two: Mental Prep Work
Now that you’ve done a little spiritual work through the art of feng shui, you can begin to formulate a plan. That my friend is the mental prep work!
As previously stated, doing a little space clearing, especially in stations where you work out or cook foods, is going to help you create a vision of how to lose weight.
This just naturally tends to happen, even while you clean and clear. The next natural step is to make a few decisions based on your vision.
Ask yourself these questions:
* Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what worked for you?
* How much weight do you have to lose? How far are you willing to go to lose it? Meaning, are you willing to go past your comfort zone?
* What foods are you willing to give up?
*Which foods are a must-have?
* Are you willing to work every day to make this change? Because without daily commitment, you honestly won’t get very far.
* Which type of diet are you leaning towards?
* What type of physical fitness do you think you can handle in order to lose the weight?
It works best if you write down the questions and answer them as honestly as possible in the notebook or private online journal that you started. Sometimes we don’t know exactly what we are thinking until we say it out loud or get it on paper.
Now, let’s cover these questions and get to the heart of your diet and exercise plan! This will help you dig a little deeper into your mental prep work.
“Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what worked for you?”
If you’ve been able to lose weight in the past, this is a great place to start. Just as your body remembers a workout from ten years ago, your body also remembers the feelings and memories associated with a diet. If that diet actually worked for you, then bonus! However, here is the part where you have to ask yourself a painful question.
“If you lost the weight before, why did you gain it back?”
Ouch! Like I said, this one hurts. Usually, if we lost weight before successfully and we gained it back, there’s a culprit behind it. It means that whatever the underlying root problem was, hadn’t been dealt with, but was simply swept out of the way.
It means you were able to be determined to lose the weight but you didn’t deal with the psychological effects of why you had a weight issue in the first place. Even though this is painful, it’s highly important that you uncover that reason right now.
This time you’re going to have to face it head on and address that issue. A great example of that is having an eating disorder or a poor body image.
It could be that a traumatic event took place in your life, such as sexual abuse or maybe that you have a food addiction that you haven’t come out of the closet with. The reasons may vary but it is critical that you find that reason and write it down. Soak in the essence of it then burn it so no one will know about it except you and spirit.
Moving Beyond the Burning Question
Now that we have addressed the hardcore question, we can begin to move past it. If you’ve lost some weight in the past, it is highly important to remember how you did it. Think about what you were thinking when you lost the weight.
How were you feeling? What was going on in your life at the time? Fill in all the details as you go along, strolling down memory lane. These are key factors in creating the picture that sparked your weight loss. What sparked your weight loss last time will influence how you lose the weight this time.
How much weight do you have to Lose?
In order to make an evaluation of the big picture you’re creating, you must be honest with yourself and do a weigh in. If possible, use a seamstress measuring tape to get all of your measurements and write them down. Then put your scale away! That’s right, put your scale away!
When losing weight, you’re going to become obsessed with every ounce and pound. Putting away the scale takes your focus off of losing weight and channels that energy into how your clothes fit.
Instead, focus on creating healthy eating habits and the exercise portion of things. This puts you at an advantage of taking action steps towards losing the weight while keeping you from obsessing if you’re there yet.
When can you check your weight? The best time to check your measurements again is after you can see and feel a noticeable difference in the fit of your clothes.
Still snug? I wouldn’t bother to check just yet. This will only discourage you. Feels nice and loose, like something is really happening? Now is the time to check! This will give you a huge boost of confidence and a dose of motivation to keep going.
How Far Are You Willing to Go to Go to Lose It?
When I lost over 30 pounds in 2012′, I started out with a juice fast. Right away, I knew that my ultimate magical goal was to keep fasting until the weight was gone. You can read my weight loss story here.
In other words, I was willing to go all the way with it and it leads to other things, including huge lifestyle choices, are long-lasting and effective for a lifetime.
Are you willing to go all the way with it? If you knew that juicing could help you lose all the weight, would you be willing to try it? Would you be willing to do it, until all the weight was gone?
If you knew that a radical lifestyle change such as, becoming a vegan or vegetarian could be the trigger that changes your outlook on food forever, would you be willing to do it?
Just write down a few ideas that are outside your comfort zone and be sure to choose only healthy ones. You don’t want to try the latest fad diet or diet pills. This is about making changes that will last you a lifetime!
What Foods Are You Willing to Give Up?
You have to be willing to give up something, in order to get something back in life. It’s just the nature of things.
Think about and make a list of all the foods that you would be willing to give up. I bet you found a few while you were cleaning and clearing your cupboard and fridge. Add those to the list!
Here’s a good starter list if you can’t think of anything:
- Potato chips
- White refined sugar
- White bread and other complex carbohydrates such as pasta, bread, french fries!
- Any and all sweets. That way if you have one, you have to go out of your way to get one in public.
- Alcohol. Oh yes, I said it!
- Snacks that do not fall under the guise of a fruit or vegetable
These are just a few but I would definitely get rid of anything that doesn’t fall under what would be considered a natural source of food and energy. At least for now.
Remember, you can always ease back into one or two of these things or splurge on occasion. I guarantee that you’ll appreciate them more if they are a treat!
Kind of like waiting all year for the pumpkin spiced latte at Starbucks, it’s something to look forward to and by that time you will have earned it.
Which Foods Are a Must-Have?
Here’s the fun part! List a few different foods that you absolutely can’t live without.
For me, it’s Amy’s Organic Thai Coconut Soup (vegan), black coffee (I know, I’m weird, right?), and nuts for protein. Think about yours and write them in your notebook or in your online personal journal. Then always keep them around because they are going to come in handy!
Are You Willing to Work Everyday to Make This Change?
Don’t be intimidated by these words. Literally, take it one day at a time and moment by moment. Just as long as you have a daily commitment then you’re good to go!
A good indication that you’re committed is the fact that you’re here in the first place. Taking the time to make an investment in your future means you’re quite the awesome character!
Which Type of Diet Are You Leaning Towards?
Okay, by now a picture will have formed in your head on the type of diet you’re leaning towards. The simplest way to know that you’re on the right track is to ask your body what it needs.
Most of the time, you’re going to get answers that are natural and organic. This tends to be plant-based foods and maybe a few grain enriched foods. Your body also needs protein, which luckily for you, plants are made from!
When in doubt with a diet, here’s a good rule of thumb. You can mix n’ match a smoothie, soup, salad, and sammies (sandwiches)! If you’re doing a juice fast and a liquid diet for a spell, You can choose between a green smoothie or a juice at any given point throughout the day.
Whatever you decide to choose, think lifestyle changes that will last you a lifetime! If something feels like a fad or a crash diet, then I would nix it from your thoughts. Those work short-term and the weight always comes back.
You also want to think of your own diets. For example, maybe a diet that is all about a glowing skin and complexion. Maybe a diet that is themed for hair, skin, and nails. Maybe one with foods that boost your mood. Whatever you choose, it’s all in the bag! You’ve got this 🙂 Kudos to you for being a food genius.
What Type of Physical Fitness Can You Handle In Order to Lose the Weight?
If you start anywhere, always start with cardio. Cardio is by and large the most effective way to lose weight fast and see tangible results.
Start by doing little things like taking a walk or dancing in your living room to some great music. It may sound silly but do it anyway!
The lighter your heart is, the lighter you will be! Don’t take this too seriously, especially at first, just have fun with it.
The reason why fitness magazine always talks about walking is that, for most people, it is the simplest place to start for almost anybody. It is also a full body workout.
Bonus points for getting out in nature or trying other activities! Other activities you might also like for the indoors are yoga for weight loss, the elliptical trainer, the treadmill, and pilates for weight loss. Get in a good sweat session and I guarantee, you’re going to want more.
Step Three: Physical Prep Work
You’ve heard the old expression take a picture it last longer, well, that’s what you’re going to do today. Take a selfie or have someone do it for you.
Get into a bathing suit or lingerie for the picture. Even better, if you have a Polaroid or Instax camera you can take an instant picture.
I swear this ritual isn’t meant to make you feel bad. This is so that you can get a handle on where you are now and where you’d like to be soon.
Make notes on the picture, like on the back or on the margin of the Polaroid. Be sure to include the date, your mood, and what you expect to see the next time you take the same type of photograph. This will set your intention in pure gold!
Setting intentions sets the universe in motion to follow your lead. You can put the picture away in your notebook, your personal online journal, or you can hide it somewhere safe if you’re worried someone might see it. Do not, I repeat, do not, pull it out until you feel you have lost a lot, if not all, the weight.
Clean and Clear Out Your Body
Just as you cleaned out your house, in the beginning, you must clean your temple. Your body, of course, is your temple.
You can do this by getting a colonic if you can afford one or by using natural laxative tea. You can also do this in the most natural way possible by doing a three-day juice fast to clear everything out.
The reason this is so important is you need to get rid of all the toxins, the pills, the poop, and the meat from your body. All the icky stuff needs to come out, as of now.
This is a delicate topic but it has to be said. Poop and toxins building up over a long period of time can put up to 10 pounds of extra weight in your body!
Take your time with this one. You can give yourself one day for a colonic or natural laxative and three days to a week for a juice fast. During this time a lot of water weight will naturally slough off too!
You’ll actually feel amazing because it gives you a natural high and you feel lighter and cleaner afterward. This my friend, is the first step to being successful in your diet in a physical way.
Setup Your Environment For Success
This is the part where you get things ready to lose weight. You need to set yourself up for success at home, at work, and in your daily life.
Go grocery shopping and make sure your fridge and cupboards are stocked with healthy food items. If you’re a mom, make sure there are items that were picked just for you, that your kids won’t eat by a long shot!
It’s important you make sure you’re covered. Get your gym bag ready or if you’re lucky like I am, set up a mini home gym!
Make sure your shoes and socks are on the elliptical trainer or treadmill. Other things you can do is make sure you have a weeks worth of cold-press juices at the ready.
If you can’t do that, just have a weeks worth of recipes ready for your juicer or blender. The key is to prepare by taking care of all of the little pitfalls and temptations ahead of time. This also saves you time and keeps you from lapsing.
Little Notes of Encouragement
In preparation, write little notes to yourself! Write notes of inspiration, motivation, and encouragement to yourself and leave them in your lunch bag for work, in your purse, the rear view mirror of your car, or in the bathroom mirror with red lipstick.
Bonus points, if you can get family members or friends to write you notes too! Just when your faith is wavering, this will keep you going strong.
Putting It All Together
Congratulations! You are now ready to begin your weight-loss journey. You know, officially. How do you feel about that?
I would take a moment to write down your mood and thoughts on your new weight-loss regime. You did it! Record it in your notebook or online personal diaries.
You did this all on your own. You didn’t choose the latest fad or crash diet. You let the picture of the new you come to mind through all of your preparation and hard work.
Activate your diet now! You can do this by literally taking an action step in any direction. Ease yourself into.
Take a walk or turn on some music and dance in your living room with your kids or pet, as long as you do something to initiate your weight loss plan. This will cue your brain that the time has come to lose the weight and that you are ready.
Create a section in your notebook or your online journal for gratitude. Call it whatever you like. I like to call mine wishing jar. You can borrow it from me if you like!
Write at least one thing every single day in this section. Write what you are thankful for in your diet, in today’s workout, in how loose your clothes are, and so on and so forth. You get the idea!
By being grateful, you’ll attract more weight loss and holistic health and healing to you! If you like, now would be a good time to write down compliments.
Write down every compliment that you get that seems to be related to weight loss. Trust me, people will notice and this is a huge confidence booster! Keeping track affirms what you already know.
Take It From Here
You can do this! I believe in you and now it’s up to you to believe in yourself too. You have all the tools, you’ve done all the prep work, and you can take it from here.
